 FOCUS ON :-

  • Community managed Lift Irrigation Systems.
  • Community managed Water Harvesting structures/masonry check dams.
  • Recharging of community/private wells.

Seeing and hearing from the villagers regarding the immense potential for the development of water resources and irrigation development, SADGURU initiated irrigation development through lift irrigation and along with it promoted small-scale water resources development program through the construction of checkdams . Subsequently, this has been integrated with other land and water resource development activities based on local demand and potential.

It has been publicly recognized as the most successful and suitable intervention for this region.

 REVIVAL OF RIVERS :

In the SADGURU approach, the total course of the river is harnessed through a series of masonry check dams at suitable intervals on the same source. This ensures that optimum water is harvested and distributed to all the villages along the source. As a result, 40 local rivers and rivulets have become perennial, against the pre-intervention scenario of drying up from November onwards. Another 20 local rivers and rivulets are in the process of being harvested at optimum levels.

 JHALAWAR PROJECT, RAJASTHAN :

Dag block in Jhalawar is the most backward block in the district with minimum of irrigation and alround backwardness.

The Government of India, Ministry of Rural Development, sanctioned a project for the small scale water resources development in Dag block under SGSY Special Project, under the approval No. V.12011/16/2000IRD-III (Sl.No.5) dated 03.05.2001, entrusting the implementation to a well known NGO, N M Sadguru Water and Development Foundation. The NGO has an excellent track record of implementing the land and water resources programmes for nearly 30 years.

15 small scale water resources projects in the form of community lift irrigation schemes and community water harvesting structures - check dams (7 lift irrigation schemes and 8 check dams) were to be executed under the above programme with the total outlay of Rs. 634.70 lakhs with 75 % of the grants under SGSY Special project from Government of India and 25 % to be shared by above NGO.

The project is being monitored and directed by the Department of Rural Development, Rajasthan, and the DRDA, Jhalawar, Rajasthan.

On full utilization of the potential created under this special project, approximately, 3,000 poor families will get benefit and around 7,650 acres of the land in one season and about 15,000 cropping acres will be covered under irrigation in two seasons.
