| OUR APPROACH TO DEVELOPMENT
: |
Communities and natural
resources are two basic constituents of rural settings in most
of the tribal areas in India and they are inter-dependent and
interactive with each other. The community plays an important
role in determining the use and management of natural resources
and the natural resources determine the state of the community.
These two constituents have been treated as the root of our approach
In order to rehabilitate and increase the natural resource base
and empower the community to take charge for its growth and sustainability,
relevant NRM technologies are incorporated in the whole approach.
Under this approach several NRM interventions centered around
land and water resources are adopted. |
|
"They have proved that development
around the available local resources with the participation
of the people is the most effective way of helping the
poor…. Sadguru has proved that when these two resources
are harnessed properly, they can achieve amazing results.
They have presented a development style and mode, which
is based on local resources supported with an appropriate
technology"

| “The journey of 25 years has
been a long one, considering the conditions in which the
Indian NGOs operate. If in one sentence the journey is to
be described, it has been the most satisfying period both
for Sadguru as well as the people associated with it. Nothing
can be more satisfying than the feeling that through our
efforts more than lacs of tribal people have been rendered
the services which have not only lifted the status of these
tribals, but, it has brought in confidence, dignity and
empowerment to this most needy, most deserving and perhaps
the best of our people. At this juncture, the feeling is
not that we have done wonders for the tribals, or there
is a feeling that "we have done it". It is infact,
a feeling of the fulfillment of our obligations towards
the tribals. We have not obliged them. What has been done
was expected of the sensitive individuals and genuine organisation.” |

PERFORMANCE AND IMPACT : |
| Ever since its inception in 1974, Sadguru with
its community-based approach and innovative, appropriate and sound
NRM technologies has contributed to the regional and national
productivity. A significant change is observed in the socio-economic
status, health, education, and overall change in the living standards
of the tribal people. As a successful NRM development model, it
has been stated by knowledgeable people that this is a sound technical
and social model, which can be replicated from here to Kalahandi
(Orrisa) as a successful development alternative for India. Its
impact has been felt to be replicable to other developing nations
in south Asia and Africa also. The impact and achievements of
the organisation are shared in the ANNUAL REPORT.
