In order to provide sustainable income on a small land, this program has been started by our organisation since 1998 with very low scale in initial years. In recent years, it has geared up. Cumulatively, there are now almost 32,000 wadis in our project area, mostly in Dahod and second largest in Banswara under NABARD program. Major plants in these wadis are of quality mangoes— Kesar, Langda and Rajapuri variety. The market has reported that these Mangoes are of a high quality in comparison to the best mangoes producing areas. Considering the gestation period of seven years at about 50% production level and almost optimum on the next ten years, it is projected within 5 years from now, Dahod farmers who have undertaken this programme may cumulatively get income in the range of Rs. 50-100 crore.
Almost all our orchards are organic. We are also in the process of formulating a strategy and action plan for the marketing and processing of mangoes and other fruit crops. Some studies have been done in this area and the experts are being engaged to help us in this direction.
